Delta Airlines - outrageous change fees from Delta Airlines

I bought a one way ticket from Detroit to Saint Louis for $218 on Delta airlines.I wanted to change the flight one day from December 27th to the 26th at tye same time of day.

The total fare difference and change fee was $315. How can they Justify this? Where is the logic in charging %150 more than what the original ticket cost.

The only thing this accomplishes is, it makes me not want to fly Delta again at anytime in the future.I can rent a car and drive the 8 hours and still be ahead in time money and frustration at the airline delays!

obviously if you are closer to the departure date price of the ticket would not be the same since there are less seats on the plane

You've left out critical information, such as when you bought the original ticket and when you want to change the date of your ticket. Since then, is it not possible that fares have gone up as they sell the cheaper seats and only the more expensive ones become available? Perhaps you should have considered a flexible ticket rather than a non-flexible one.Yes, they are more expensive but then you can make changes without fare differences and without change fees.

Don't like it? Try Southwest which does offer more flexible tickets at a lower price.
