I bought a $200 Vera Wang dress at the Bowie, MD store.Due to unforeseen circumstances, I went back a week later to return it.

Keep in mind, I had not taken the dress out of the store yet because it was a strapless dress that I wanted straps added to it. I was told my pickup date for the dress would be in 2 weeks, which was fine by me. I went back a week later, and they told me that since the straps were already attached, it was considered altered and could not be returned/exchanged. There were absolutely NO other alterations to the dress other than the straps, which can EASILY be removed (anyone who has ever used a sewing machine can tell you this) and put back on the rack!.

I also asked why no one had called me to pick up my dress, since it was already altered and ready to be taken home". She had no answer for me". I had not even taken it out of the store yet, and was told I cannot return it because it was considered "altered".. Even the first time I went, when I bought the dress, it took us a good 20 minutes to be helped, and then every time I looked for my consultant she was off helping someone else'.

The lady at the front the first time I went was very unprofessional, she was bad mouthing one of the other associates right in front of us! What a great way to set a bad impression on your store:. The second time I went, the same lady that was at the front the first time was the one to help me".

Immediately, I knew she was not going to be helpful, but I tried anyways".Now I have wasted over $200.

Straps are easy to add and remove, yes, but they still mean a dress has been altered. Someone had to do that work, you were (I'm assuming) measured so the straps would fit properly- alterations work was done. And it was done for you, on your dress. You could have added straps yourself once you had the dress home, if you know your way around a sewing machine, but bridal fabrics can be tricky (read: not very nice) and scar easily. Removing straps would almost certainly leave a scar on the satin or chiffon David's uses, which would not be acceptable to sell to another woman.
So no, your dress is not brand new, and your review title is misleading. Even a small alteration is an alteration! And altered goods can't be returned to any store, especially in bridal fashion. Just think if they'd sold you some other woman's dress which had been altered and then un-altered. You'd be writing a complaint that your dress wasn't new!
