HERE IS THE LETTER I WROTE AND SENT COSTCO on 1/1/2013 NO RESPONSE TO DATE?. THEY WONT RESPOND TO A COMPLAINT WHICH IS EXTREMELY CONCERNING!!!!!

Hi, my name is XXXXXXXX/. I was in your Costco in Melville, NY yesterday and my car was broken into!. They smashed my rear drivers side window (Brand New Ford Taurus 2013 with under 100 miles) and went into the rear pocket behind the drivers seat and stole her ipad,. She is extremely upset since they also stole a case she had on it that someone bought her for Christmas and is going to be hard to replace!.

I met with your security gaurd Frank who runs the security for the store and he was extremely nice but also very unhelpful?. I was parked 40 feet from the main entrance and there is a big (what looks like a hi-tek security camera up that he said Costco has fixed to only aim @ the front door/. I find this extremely hard to believe that Costco does not have security cameras in the lot and this seems to be a case of Costco not wanting to get involved.. In addition I want to add that 4 people came up to me while I was in the lot while my daughters were freezing and crying hysterical and told us there cars were also broken into in the lot within the last year.

Please help me.

It is not Costco responsibility for your car. Even if signs are not posted anyone with a brain will know that a store is not reponsible for your care being broken into. Myself if I know a store has so many breakins I will find another store to shop at.

Number one why?Would you leave anything of value in plain site. This story does not ring TRUE.Second of all most store's have a sign up stating they are not responsible for lost or stolen property.Third this is what your insurance company is for not COSTCO.Pay your deductable and Move on.WTF.You have no complaint.

I am sorry that your car got broken into, but Costco doesn't have any responsibility in that situation. At my local Costco (and most other stores/shopping centers) there are signs posted all over the parking lot which state that you (as the owner of the vehicle) are responsible for protecting your car, and all items in your car, from theft. I believe 100% that Costco doesn't have any video cameras facing the parking lot because they are clearly trying to limit their liability.

It is not Costco's responsibility to protect your vehicle it is yours......put a claim through your insurance if you have lost that much. :cry

It's true Costco does not have cameras for the parking lots. I use to work for them and my car got broken into. They didn't do anything to try and help.

Why would you leave an I pad in your car? Is it that huge that is cannot be carried. Sorry for your brekain but I always leave acar unlocked when shopping and leave nothing of value in it. This way crimes of opportunity do not happen when theives ee there is nothing to take!
