ONE WEEK FROM TOMORROW I AM TO LEAVE ON A CRUISE, WHICH HAS BEEN PLANNED FOR 8 MONTHS TO BELIZE.i CHOSE THIS TRIP AS I WANTED TO SEE BELIZE.

I RECIEVED NOTIFICATION YESTERDAY FROM CARNIVAL THAT DUE TO PORT CONGESTION THEY ARE FORCED TO CANCEL. WE HAVE A CONFIRMED BERTH,BUT THE OFFICIALS ACCEPTED FAR MORE SHIPS THAN THEY COULD HANDLE. SO OTHER SHIPS WITH MORE CLOUT WILL BE THERE,BUT WE MUST GO TO COSTA MAYA MEXICO......WHICH IS NOT A REAL SAFE PLACE TO VISIT ALONE.

TALK ABOUT A RUINED VACATION.BEING A SENIOR CITIZEN I HOPE TO LIVE TILL NEXT YEAR TO GO ON A TRIP TO BELIZE, BUT IF I DO ITR WON'T BE WITH CARNIVAL!!!! 30a687f

NEVER take a crusie just to see a specific port. This is taught in Cruise-taking 101. There are myriad reasons why a ship may not be able to stop at a given port. Besides, these ships are only in any given port for 8 to 10 hours. How much of can you really see of a place in this short time. And you are claiming this is ruining your entire vacation? REALLY!?!? You are going to be on a big beautiful cruise ship all that time and are going to stop at other ports. Why did you not just book a trip to Belize all by itself if it was this important to you?

It looks like you may have already left on your cruise. Not sure where you have gotten your information from about Costa Maya being dangerous? I was just there in December and it appeared to be like any other foreign country where utilization of a little common sense will keep you safe and sound. The cruise port itself looks like "Disney World does Mexico" and is very festive and very safe with only cruise ship tourists and workers. I ventured out of the port on my own via taxi to the nearby town and had a wonderful day on the beach with lunch and the best massage ever. Never felt frightened for a minute. I hope you enjoy yourself AND one day have the opportunity to make it to Belize! :)

The reason is because Belize had some major gang shootings recently. Thats the real reason for the cancellation of the cruise ships into Belize. I have a friend from Belize and she has told me all about this and the reason behind it. Actually 4 people that were drugs lords were supposed shot and killed.

Carnival has no control over the port restrictions, the country in which the port is in does. Just like flights can be cancelled so can cruises and it can happen with ANY and EVERY cruise line. Did they give you an offer of a reschedule? A refund?
