Avoid U-Haul -- especially U-Haul Pulaski Highway in Baltimore, U-Haul truck rental and storage Comp
May 3, 2003
UHaul complaint
I just had my 4th and last horrible U-Haul experience. I should have listened to that instinct to hang up as soon as I called U-Haul to line up this last move from Cleveland to Baltimore. I have sworn them off so many times, but I always get sucked in because they are usually at least $100 less than its competitors.

It is not worth the savings! I was supposed to pick up my U-Haul on a Sunday afternoon in order to pack and head to Baltimore early Monday morning. The agent assured me there would be plenty of trucks in the Cleveland area on Sunday.

When I still didn't have a truck Monday morning I called the U-Haul dealer in Baltimore because I already had some stuff in storage out there and Tuesday was the 1st of the month. I wanted to make sure I wouldn't be charged the monthly fee for the storage unit for being one day late (since it was U-Haul's fault anyway). The Baltimore employee didn't seem all that bright, but he told me it wouldn't be a problem.

He said that storage units were prorated anyway. Not true. After many phone calls and complaints we finally got a truck Tuesday afternoon and drove to Baltimore on Wednesday.

The truck drove okay (this was the first one I had that didn't break down) and we pulled in just as U-Haul Pulaski Highway of Baltimore was closing. They refused to stay for 5 extra minutes and were very unfriendly. We went back the next day and the owner, Beverly, gave us a hard time.

She was very rude and insisted on charging me for the entire month for the storage unit. We argued and explained how it was U-Haul's fault we were late and her employee even told us it would be prorated. She said they never prorate storage and even though I had spent over $1000 on storage and trucks from her over the past 2 years she wouldn't budge on the $50.

I even had a coupon for one free month of storage and she refused to honor it. (By the way, when I first rented the storage unit she said it was on the 2nd floor. She neglected to say there was no elevator and I had to get an old ladder on wheels and carry all my heavy boxes up it and put them in the creapy ceiling level hole full of mice ***.)

She kept referring us to the ""corporate office"" that never answers their phone. Beverly was very unprofessional and manly woman who had no interest in customer satisfaction. She told us she had been in business for many years and our complaint wasn't going to bother her a bit.

PLEASE boycott U-Haul and especially rude Beverly's Pulaski Highway location in Baltimore. She doesn't take good care of her vehicles nor the storage space for rent. Spend a little more and rent a Budget truck.
