Penn Foster Career School complaint
Penn foster has changed its name over the last few years from Harcourt Learning ,Thompson direct and the latest Penn Foster. I was stupid enough to actually think I could learn a carreer with these scam artists .I took the TV VCR repair thinking that VCR's are basically extinct that the course would be more Tv repair oriented.I could not have been more wrong.

they promise to teach you how to use tools such as Ocssiloscopes, function generators ,probes ,analizers, and send you on your way to a new carreer . They teach nothing about plasma.or lcds Tv's of now or the future or basically anything helpful in todays TV tech world.

There courses are just simple booklets you read and take an a connect the dot exam that basically exists of a true or false answers.there is no supervision ,no circuit testing, and no descriptive teaching on any major tools or equipment needed for todays TV repair. and now that I am almost finished with the course I can't get any money back nor can I get out of my contract.

Do Not Take any course Penn Foster has to Offer if it pertains to this type of course you will be sorry....

Has anyone actually got a job with skills they learned from Penn Foster, Do the employers look at the school favorable?

Reading the various opinions, for or against, is helpful. It is also helpful to read the relevant experiences that people have taken the time to share. But I think the sarcastic and mean-spirited comments regarding grammar, spelling, and decision-making are not constructive or helpful.

Haha, one: You took a VCR class, not TV, duh. You're ignorance is your own fault.

Two: They offer interior DECORATING not DESIGN. Difference. So yea, maybe you all could use to learn a few things.

I received their brochure on the Interior Design program. I already had the info, they offered, but they did offer a 6month Design Certificate with business support. It sounded like a nice idea and the price was reasonable, but with the economy falling down, I couldn't see how I would have made any money. And I might not have made any$$ regardless, since this seems to be a business with a lot of sophistication and tons of study, and a lot of networking. A friend of mine spent weeks of her own independent study time just learning rugs and carpets, to say nothing of fabric, contracting, etc. I cannot see who would have hired me with a semester of study.. I'm glad I threw it away.

:( I agree with Thomas, do not take any courses with Penn Foster! It's the worst educational experience you'll ever have!

Penn Foster is a wonderful school. Actually, they do update their information. I have contacted Penn Foster a number of times regarding my class information and questions. They have been very helpful and do respond pretty quickly. I would have contacted the school after realizing that the information that I was given was not up-to-date and that I would like to have updated information as promised. It's in their disclosure. Good Luck with your future studies and career choices!

:? Well one does have to wonder, when a course is offered for vcr repair, regardless of if it includes television or not, why would you pay your hard earned money to get into a dying field? Even if you were only going to take the course for television repair, why not be sure of what you are getting yourself into? I have taken a course with Penn Foster and granted the study guides are brief and not so top of the line, but you get what you pay for! Especially when all you really are looking for is a certification and/or degree, which you get regardless. Also if you were to go to any school at all and participate past, gee i dunno 2 weeks, you still owe money! Quit complaining and take responsibility for your actions. The true lesson here is to do more research and make educated decissions about major choices in life.
