Recreational Factory Warehouse complaint
To anyone considering a pool purchase from Recratioal Factory Warehouse;

I wish that I had found this website before I purchased my swimmingpool from RFW. Howevere I was a day late and 3300.00 dollars short! Hopefully this will reach you before you make a purchase from them.

We purchased a 24' round swimming pool from RFW on 4/12/03 and that is where the nightmare began. We were promised that the pool would be installed by Memorial Day Weekend, maybe I should have been more specific about what year. I did not think that that request was unreasonable considering there was six weeks for them to deal with. Needless to say it is now 6/10/03 and we still do not have a completely set up pool. The whole thing has been a disaster. The first install date had to be canceled

and reschedueled. They showed up early tore up my yard and left to help on another job, came back the next day with only two guys, finished setting up the pool. They done a very poor job.

I had to call the office to come look, they did and rescheduled to reinstall it. 4 weeks passed, the pool sat in our yard all this time getting more dity every day and breading mosquitos. finally after a whole lot of fussing they came back and done an even worse job. This time I had the added bonus of them bringing a bobcat and totally distroying my back yard, and even places in my front yard. That was on 5/20 and 5/21 and since then it has been a series of unreturned phone calls no shows on apts and in general just the run around. So as of today 6/10/03 we are back to square one with a pool set up improperly half full of green water breeding mosquitos and we are comming up on 4 weeks again. But hey what do they care, they got my money on 4/12/03. They made sure of that, they took an automatic draft off my account that day.

They claim that the installation company is a seperate company but what I think is that they are only seperate on paper to make it difficult for the customer to have any recourse when things go wrong. They have covered all bases. ADL enterprises only does installation work for RFW, which I find odd because if I am an indepentant contractor I would think I would take business from many companys to make as much money as I could. But then again maybe the problem is the poor quality of work they produce. Maybe no reputable company would give them any business.

However my momma always told me that if is walked like a duck and quacked like a duck, then most likly it's a duck. So my guess is that they a just one in the same for all intensive purposes, just not on paper.

If anyone else out there has had similar problems with RFW in virginia beach please file a complaint here. Maybe as individuals we can't do anythig, but as a group we could make enough noise that they would have to do something.

I was just called by A&B at 1:17pm and informed all they could do is patch the pool and in the future if any more grass grows to cut the grass as close as I can to the liner but not too close because I could puncture the liner and put a patch. I was also told that even if I put a herbicide down this could have still happened because grass does what it wants to do. I also did some on line research that if the herbicide you choose to use does damage to the liner that is not under warranty also. A&B also informed me that the extra $100.00 I was charged was also needed because my land was not level. Please research and research before you buy a pool. Don't get me wrong the pool is great but the extra headaches may irritate the heck out of you.

On 05/29/08 I purchased the 24\' Heritage above ground pool from Rec\'s Warehouse in Virginia Beach for $3,937.40 (this price included $800.00 to install the pool). With the price of gas not getting any lower and everything else getting more expensive due to the price of gas I thought this would be a great way to save money by staying at home. Needless to say I was very excited about my purchase. The sales man Jimmy was very polite and seemed like he had my best interest at heart. Even went so far as to say if I find a better deal call him and he will tell you because he is here to make people happy not screw them over. Ok...Rec\'s subcontracts to A&B so I had to wait 2 weeks to get the pool installed which was on 13June08. On 09June08 A&B Billards came out to \"prep\" the ground...this cost an extra $100.00 because they said the ground needed to be dug up with a bobcat. I was a little confused because when I was signing the contract for pool set-up at Rec\'s Warehouse I noticed an extra charge paragraph as I was reading the contract so I asked about it. As I was asking an employee for A&B walked by, asked me where did I live, and said I didn\'t need to worry about that because he has done work in the area I live in and that the ground is very level. I called A&B after I paid the $100.00 and spoke to a female that said this is normal and that I had to pay it. 13June08- A&B comes to set-up the pool. I was at work so my fiance watched as they set-up the pool. We started filling the pool once A&B was finished. The pool finished filling on 15June08 and that is when I noticed that there were leaks from some of the pipes around the pool pump. I called A&B and a very nice man named Frank came out and after 3 visits got the leak problem fixed. Today is 26June08 the pool has been up 11 days. This morning I went to vacum the pool and noticed there are about 6 areas that have grass that has grown threw the liner. I called Rec\'s and they said they are not responsible so I called A&B and they also said they are not responsible. They quoted that I signed in the contract that I was responsible for applying herbicide before install. I looked over my copies and yes I put my initials however, not once was grass or herbicide mentioned. Jimmy, Rec\'s sales guy, and A&B not once mentioned herbicide...thier main concern was rocks in the sand. My ignorance not knowing that herbicide needing to be put down even though the ground was dug up...is just that my ignorance. Also, me trusting Jimmy and not having any previous experiece with owning a pool is my ignorance. I did think about putting Round-Up down but was scared it would eat the liner so it was just that a thought. So now I have a water filled pool with about six holes that has grass growing out of them, I am playing the wait game with A&B becuase they said they don\'t even have a record of me paying the extra $100.00...not to mention when I called today I was told that if I wasn\'t happy with the set-up why am I waiting until today to call....funny because I called on 13June08 to ask about the extra $100.00 but there is no record of me calling. Please read the fine print and PLEASE don\'t think that anyone at Rec\'s or A&B is there to help you...with exception to Frank. Frank is about the best person I have met in a very long time....I feel that if it would have been him helping with the set-up or with the education part of what I needed to do to the ground prior to set-up I would not be sitting here writing this.
