The word entertainment first appeared in the late Middle English. It sprang from French entretenir, based on Latin inter "among" + tenere "to hold." The word originally meant to maintain or to continue, and later to maintain in a certain condition, treat in a certain way, hospitable way. And at the present time it means to maintain yourself and people who surrounds you amused and pleased. Entertainment is rather a form or recreation or relaxation. Entertainment should always bring enjoyment and fun. Otherwise, this is not entertainment.
To entertain themselves people read books or magazines, listen to the music, watch moves and talk to other people. Besides, they can also go in for some sport. To entertain others people can make a show of a performance. Theatre and movies are in most cases very entertaining. People can also play some nice games to entertain themselves and others or to dance.
