Precision Tune Auto Care complaint by Kendrab
I took my car in to Precision Tune in Ft. Walton Beach, FL, because of brake noise. I was told the car needed new pads and rotors (I am now skeptical of this after reading other complaints) and that the bill would be about 460 dollars. Not really knowing anything about what the cost should be to repair the car, and without receiving a written estimate (which they must give in the state of FL) I allowed the repairs. After doing my own research the next day into the cost of standard brake pads and rotors for my car, I realized that they had charged roughly 500% markup on parts. I was charged 90 dollars (as opposed to 20 retail) for brake pads, and 225 (as opposed to 50 retail) for a set of rotors. When I asked for an explanation from the manager, I was told this was because they only use "premium" parts and that the parts come with a lifetime warranty, but he refused to tell me what kind of parts he used, and there was never a mention of any warranty until after I had contacted the manager, nor were we given a choice when we consented to the work. When I called their corporate office, I was told that the matter would have to be handled by the owner, who has yet to call me back. I've filed a complaint with the FL Department of Consumer Services and plan to take the car to a different shop to have the work inspected. Stay away from these guys... at the worst, they're liars and frauds; at the best, they take advantage of their customers.
