Maybe I'm doing something wrong, but have just purchased a brand new MS290 and am following the sales guys and manual's exact start-up steps and the pull cord doesn't engage at all - just pulls easy without catching to the engine. Unfortunately, at 5:00 p.m. on Sunday, both the Stihl customer service AND the dealers are closed, so I am stuck to wait until Monday. Any suggestions? xxxxx xxxx xxx... Read more

Rebuilt her with a MS 390 overhaul kit. Runs great, starts every time. I recommend mixing your oil a little on the rich side and if she ever starts running at a higher rpm than usual at start-up, you could be running lean or sucking air. Love by STIHL, wouldn't own anything else. You can remove stops on carb adjustments. I purchased an aftermarket carb, it doesn't come with stops. The only... Read more

I owned an 034 AV for about 20 years, never had a problem out of the ordinary . It finally died last year so I bought a MS 362 from Bucheits. Big mistake!!! It floods 19 out of 20 times you try to start it and had to replace the gas cap and pull cord already. I heat with wood so I use a saw a lot. There is nothing more aggravating than having to cut wood when its cold and the saw won't start... Read more

I bought a $480 Stihl chainsaw and used only premium gas with their oil. After one year of use, I tried to re-start it while sawing logs and it would not start. I brought it back to the Stihl store in NJ, left it and returned in one week to be told that it was not worth repairing due to sub-standard fuel used. I had brought it to them with the fuel in it and they said they would have the... Read more

Contacted Retailer and they Stated that is was a common complaint but not under warranty, Contacted Stilh and they said that the dealer should explained that to only pull lightly and not to far because of the special gears etc. The main problem is that the pull rope is cheap. The repair cost me $4 for the pulley rope and $37 for the repair. So I had to spend $41 to repair a *** eater that I paid... Read more

Where to start... To be honest Sthil tools are what my brother and I prefer to use for our businesses. Here recently we have had problems with two of our trimmers. The new 40 model to be exact. We have three we have recently purchased and the first one runs fine. The other two run for a few mins and foul the plugs to the point that they won't run. Like i said i prefer Sthil so first thing i call... Read more

Yes, fully admit I ran ethanol blended fuel through them . Dealer did not tell me otherwise until I brought the string trimmer, chainsaw and hedge trimmer back for service. They replaced carbs on both new trimmers and since that very expensive service, I burned nothing but expensive Stihl premix fuel with no ethanol. They ran for only two sessions of yard work and are back to their old tricks.... Read more

The bar pinched while cutting a tree about 8" around. I was going to pull it out and the whole top handle and trigger handle came completely off in my hands. So then I started to rock the tree back and forth. When the tree gave and fell it caused the chainsaw to flip over the tree and hit the ground. Once I retrieved the saw it had broke the chain break lever off and the primer bulb in half the... Read more

I have bought more than 40 pieces of "Stihl" equipment in the last 21 years. WARNING, they are so good my employees and everyone else wants to steal them. I WOULDN'T HAVE ANYTHING ELSE. The Polan, McCoullog, and other brands that I have owned, are always broken and no one wants to steal them. My biggest complaint is when my John Deere tractor runs over one of them, for some strange reason they... Read more

I used to use nothing but Stihl chainsaws... Before idiots caused consumer groups to force manufacturers to add so much safety ***, you can't sneeze without the equipment shutting down. Evidently, Stihl took this too far, since the !@#$# thing has never... I mean never started without a 20 minute, frustrated, engine flooding experience that I'm certain will give me a heart attack. I need a... Read more
