The company was once a great place to work. They were appreciative of hard work.

Held award banquets every year. Recognized the sacrifice to family. But some how they have changed. They hire people to make changes that have no idea what it is like to run routes or sell the products.

When did they stop hiring people who move up in company. They put them on salary and then now act like they own them. They want them to pressure good customers. Now it is about the all might buck which they demand you deliver even if it takes you 7 days to do so.

What went wrong that made this company not care about anyone but them selves.

Sad cause I loved Schwans as a company. Hoping the founder dying didnt start a down hill trend.

Monetary Loss: $2.

Location: Walnut Creek, California

Booya I work all the time for a company that appreciates me. No I am not slaving away for a corrupt crooked outfit like schwans 70 hrs per week rain or shine like a stooge for peanuts and what pathetic benefits like no paid holidays, no paid sick days.

only 2 week vacations. wow. considering all the hours dirt bag schwans expects you to work, asking for paid holidays and sick days isn't too much is it? Oh..thats right!

Gee schwans scam management gets all that!

only a dupe would work for scam schwans and expect nothing. :p

Ohhhhh....I don't get any paid sick days....too bad you whine ***!!! Why don't you work for something instead of holding your hands out.

You make me sick with your *** about lack of entitlements.

Sick/personal/vacation days are not rights that are owed to you. Problem with our country is YOU!!!

Guest

the banquets were a waste of time. when I worked there we had them.

they were a joke. Schwans would have a banner at the head table that read WE APPRECIATE YOU

but really, they appreciate no one.

they treat their employees like *** then, as they do now.

benefits are very poor as someone already said. no sick days or paid holidays.

wow

working about 70hrs per week rain or shine, hot weather or blowing snow it dont matter.

truck breaks down? oh thats too bad. well guess you will do a make up day on your day off boo hoo!

in Marvin's day drivers were supposed to inventory their trucks after working 12-13hrs per day. thats about 1.5 hrs. and guess what one got paid for it? oh zero!

sales meetings? oh that that zero pay again and you did that on your weekend on your own time

anyone who thinks schwans was a great employer in Marv's time has no clue. Massive turnover then as well.

Marv was just a lying thief, and a crook. company is disgusting today as well.

,) ,) schwans was absolutely never a good employer. 1 week vacation after one year service, no paid holidays, sick days and the commission in Marvin's time was around 8.9 per cent.

one was also expected to come in on days off for sales meetings-unpaid of course.

when marv died, al took over. commission was raised to about 11 per cent-but prices were raised as well. 2 week vacation after one year. no paid holidys, sick days.

expected to attend sales meetings on days off without pay.

they have always sucked as an employer, and always will.

would love to see what makes you think schwans is a great place to work lol

12-14 hr work days

no paid holidays

gee love no sick days

2 week vacation in exchange for working 70hrs per week vs the customary 40 in a year?

wow! gee sign me up! lol

you are right about one thing-hard work. that can pay off if you work somewhere else. but not if you waste your time working for schwans!

go get a better job with a better company. schwans is about as low as it gets.

This can be true...especially if you take over an already "hot" route. If you don't, well...good luck.

Given the current business model (archaic) and the corporate culture (medieval) coming in cold and taking over a bad route is a good way to make a couple of thou.

a month while looking for another job.

Schwan's RSR turnover rate rivals that of Taco Bell's TO rate for positions such as "lettuce stuffer." And it's no wonder. It's not impossible to make a good living as an RSR, but Schwan's management seems to enjoy findng ways to make it seem as if it is...and they do this successfully, apparently.

this writer most likely is a company stooge as he or she will only go by Anoymous. I also worked for Schwans for 2 years.

I left for a better job as any job was better than working for these slave masters. favorite quote from management "if you are selling 15 hours a day at least 6 days a week, you are not doing your job." real "family friendly".

BTW, Marv was a drunk. I watched him passout at an "awards banquet"

Schwan's was probably a much "better" employer prior to the 1990s when post-war employment models had changed for the vast majority of American businesses. Schwan's corporate structure and business model still operates as if it's at the latest, perhaps the mid-1970s.

This is the primary reason why they are losing customers and are unable to replace those customers at a rate that will put them out of business (on the home service side) w/in less than a decade. It may also be why family members, forbidden by the wills of Marvin and Alfred from engaging in day-to-day operations, are expected to come back in in 2014 when that provision of the will expires.

It's likely heads in Marshall will roll.

Hopefully, the top few "executives" will be gone, poste-haste. Unfortunately, the will probably be replaced not by forward-thinking, quality employees or even outsiders, but rather District or Regional managers who are, mostly, an echo chamber of current management and a HUGE part of the problem.

Why are you complaining about $2.00? If you don't like working there, quit, that is a simple solution.

Not gona put the salary or anything. Had to put something of course.

And like many many many before, we are well on our way to doing that as soon as we pay 2 more bills off.

Yeppers.
