I never got a bill for the minimum usage fee, which is very high, from 11/24/20. Just got a bill today marked Past Due with finance charges for 3 months!!!!! I really hate this company. I always pay them this ridiculous fee right away but cannot if they don't bill me.

Unscheduled delivery

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
A few months ago, a tech come to our home to put a monitoring device on our propane tank. The tech told my husband that it can be monitored from our smart phone, and will make it easier to keep track and plan deliveries. Well today we got a delivery and we did NOT schedule it! When I called, they explained that they monitor it and when it gets below a certain amount, they schedule a delivery. NO ONE let us know that it was scheduled or being delivered. Now we have a bill that we have not planned for yet! We are always vigilant and place orders when we get around 20%. We have never run out before delivery...even when it was a week away. So angry right now!!!!

This has been happening to me for years. Even when you ask them not to make a delivery they still make it. Get used to it.

Pricing is crazy!

We've had Osterman for a long time and the prices keep going up. We're at over $5 now when the average price is mid $3's. Even after calling the best they could do was take off a few cents. It's just getting worse. Now they charge an extra fee for regulations? As far as the reliability rating. Sometimes we have to call to get a delivery. Not very reliable.

I call this morning for propane delivery- Your customer service is so rude- I paid it off on your web site and she said call back it 3 days because I was in the wrong fuel portal- well take it off the computer- I work in customer service and I would never think of talking to people like that- I guess it time to look for better company.

I received a call from Osterman asking permission to switch the outside gas tank due to age and state requirements. The tech pulled the old tank and hooked up the new one. He then came into the home to relight the furnace pilot. He was unable to light the pilot light and stating repeatedly he had never worked on our model type. He then started claiming the furnace was broken, outdated and lacking a working safety valve. He went outside and removed the gas tank effectively leaving me with no heat or a way to resolve the situation. Approximately 24 hours later a full inspection of the furnace, feed lines and stack deemed it fully functioning and safe with no justification for shut off let alone a tank removal. Osterman offered no assistance to remedy their mistake after 24 years of service with them. The company has been sold and they no longer did service calls. I went three weeks without heat while securing a new gas provider. I have yet to even receive reimbursement for the gas they removed in the original tank. Both inspectors and new company techs that came in after the incident said I had been victimized by an idiot that had no business working in the field with customers.

No I am just posting my reviews on sites and forums so others are informed.

Original review Nov 12, 2019
Was Billed $90 for minimum usage fee that I was not aware about. I explained that I did not know I was under 50 gals in the period of 10/1/18-10/1/19 but they would not credit me the BS charge. I am sure it was hidden in the fine print and if I knew about it would of made sure I purchased at least 50 gals. I would read other reviews before signing any contract with this company they are not into any customer service. In my case they could of at least waived it for one time.

Boycott Osterman

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
Local propane companies are two dollars less a gallon. Osterman is Canadian owned and way overpriced. Buy American local propane and save most likely 50% off a gallon from Osterman prices

Osterman Propane $3.139 per gallon (OP Owns tank) Other area suppliers $1.74 +/- 10% To Ostermans credit when I called to request a better price they graciously reduced it to $2.897. Thumbs up. Other area suppliers $1.74 +/- 10% Horrific, ellusive, evasive and without care are some words I would use to describe their customer service (which in and of itself is a disservice to the term)

Horrific customer service

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
Osterman took over our contract after buying out the company we were with. The original company put in an "oversized" tank for our pool heater. Subsequently we are being charged a "minimum use fee" that increases yearly. I called several times, left messages and never heard back regarding my concerns. I finally reached someone and asked if there would be a charge to remove the tank and was told that they would send out someone to determine and get back to me. To my surprise I was leaving for work and saw a crane truck going up my driveway to remove my tank and was told I would be charged a significant amount of money to remove the tank. I told them to stop and spoke with the office. They then sent 2 workers to my house to "lock" my tank related to non payment of their ever increasing minimum use fee. This company is HORRIBLE and does business like the mafia. Avoid at all costs.

Osterman's price per gallon was $5.60. I bought my own tank from DiLeo Propane and now pay $2.35 per gallon. Osterman said their price per gallon was high for my residence based on low usage. This is the only place on earth that will penalize you for conservation. Unethical! Dump Osterman and move to DiLeo Propane.

Don't use osterman propane the company is the most horrible company on the planet

Paula M Mts

Held in Captivity

We were tired of paying almost $6.00 a gallon of propane with this company with the explanation that the rate was higher for us because we had "low usage". So now it appears in order to eliminate their unfair low usage surcharge, they have now tacked it on to the price per gallon.

We located another local gas company that will provide the fuel for about 1/2 the price. Upon notifying Osterman that we would be changing service providers, we were informed there was a $250.00 tank removal fee. Are they for real? It seems this is their way of keeping a customer in captivity.

This should be against the law. This is their property.

In my opinion, they should be removing it free of charge. If they were more price competitive in the first place they would not be losing our business.

I've read many different tank removal fee comments on this website, ranging from free to $250. Seems they like to charge whatever they wish on any given day.
