We use Optum RX through United Healthcare. We can use either the mail order or a local pharmacy. Like all women in the US with health insurance, the affordable care act guarantees me contraceptive coverage with no copay. In Feb. OptumRx would not approve coverage for the medication that I was trying to refill without prior doctor authorization. After receiving authorization from my doctor, they determined it was not adequate. I would have to first have an adverse reaction to a different medication they suggested I try. I have been prescribed ritalin for the past 26 years. I have never had a pharmaceutical insurance company require my doctor call in a pre-authorization for a medication on top of writing the prescription out. My doctor called in Janurary for the "pre-autohorization" and I filled the prescription after a week of waiting for Optum RX to enter it into their system and approve it. Now I have the... Read more

I am not exagerating when I say for every and i mean every medication I spend 4 to 5 hours on the phone over 5 to 7 days. Latest examples: last month optumrx tells me they have sent a reminder to the doctor to fax the prescription. Doctor tells me they have faxed 3 times already. I don't understand why USHealthcare uses them for mail order. Their service is so bad. Every time I call someone gives me a different reason why my prescription has not been sent. Website stated processing for days. Dread dealing with them again when I need refills. Hope AARP and USHealthcare reconsider using this company. I sent in original scripts in their envelope that they supply customers on 12/19/13 and checked the box to hold the script until ready to be filled. Called today 1/29/14 to have them filled. Was told that the scripts must be lost in the mail, they don't have them. I asked to speak to a supervisor, I missed her name and she would not repeat it, said she wasn't in that dept to help me. It took them *17 days* to ship my medication. Six days later, it still hasn't arrived. Customer service offered no apology nor information. I am livid. My health insurance company requires me to use this company, or I would never deal with them again. Trying to figure out if I can appeal that? I just started using OptumRx because they are the pharmacy linked to my insurance plan and the experience has been unbelievable!!! My doctor's office called in a prescription. Missing the good ole days when I filled my scripts at my hometown pharmacy. A 20 minute wait versus a 20 plus DAY wait. Mailed in a generic script for Lexapro with instructions to take one and a half pills daily Made sure via order status that it was being processed. I told them when I would pay the money. I paid and called to see when my prescriptions were being mailed. they said 10/24 and told me the medications including Zetia which I haven't taken over 2 years.
