Hidden service agreement charge Be warned.

They push the ongoing service agreement hard. I never signed up for it but was charged for months.

In all the years we've been with Nerds on Call and Call Sam Now, during the profitable years and the lean years when we couldn't afford to keep our subscription after our initial payment, all we had to do was call and cancel our subscription, then renew the subscription when we could afford it. Not once have we been charged for anything we weren't aware of.

If you have given them your credit card information for the monthly subscription payments when you subscribed it's up to you to call them and cancel your subscription. ~Amelia

Sketchy business practices

Took my laptop in for a broken jack. Required a $200 payment up front just to look at the problem. Tried to upsell me on additional RAM and a solid state drive. Gave me a five day estimate for the repair which actually took eight business days. They made the repair but also downloaded all sorts of additional software including an icon for links to 24-hour/day free service from them. Got the laptop home and found the USB ports no longer worked. Took it back and they found the cable to the USB ports was loose. Accused me of causing the cable to come loose even though they were the ones who took the laptop apart. A month later, I find I am being charged $25/month for their "free" service. No monthly charge was ever discussed, nor would I have agreed to it if it had been discussed. When I cancelled the service and asked for a refund, the CS rep said they didn't have the authority to do that. Company claims to have a policy against refunds, but no policy against lying and deceit.

Recurring charge

They charge a recurring CC fee of $25 per month on top of the cost of repair. Be very careful! This is a VERY poor business practice, a trick to get your money. If you don't see the charge on your CC statement, you will run up quite a large bill over the months. I would never go back to them based on that practice. It was not communicated to me at the time of repair. -- They charge a recurring CC fee of $25 per month on top of the cost of repair. Be very careful! I encountered the same issue. Noticed a $25 monthly charge on my CC bill.

No mention of any such support service was ever discussed and I certainly never would have agreed to one.

Company attempted to upsell me on additional RAM and a solid state drive, downloaded additional software on to my computer without my consent, then enrolled me in their support program without my approval. Very shady business practices.

I always see online reviews for company's and typically understand that most of the time only people who are mad or had an issue post comments. This isn't fair for this company who probably has thousands of customers, so I wanted to post my great experience. About 2 months ago, I thought I lost all of my photos that I have taken over the last 8 years of using my digital camera, as well as I had a virus or something that caused my laptop to turn off every 5 minutes. I took it into the Nerds office in Portland, OR and the guys there, told me they would try everything they could to get my pictures back and quoted me a flat price of $170 I think. After only 3 days of working on it... *They saved all of my PICTURES!!* from what had been wiped out by something and they did a full clean up on my laptop; they killed the virus issue and shutdown issue, they gave me a 30 day warranty and free unlimited online support for that 30 days. I recently signed up for their unlimited monthly support service that is available 7 DAYS a WEEK! for like $25/mo. So I wouldn't trade my Portland nerd guys for anything and the people in their California call center are just as awesome and always helpful! Thanks Nerds on Call, James in Portland, OR

Computer Wiped Over New Install of Keyboard

I took my PC in for a new keyboard replacement. When I received it back all my pictures, videos, documents, over 1,500 songs were lost on my iTunes. Basically from what all the receipts say, they said my hard drive was corrupt (lie) was not corrupt before I took it in to them. The keyboard could be lifted up with my finger nail on one whole side. From bottom to top of my PC came apart. Nerds found my pictures and documents, reinstalled them, but not one video of my deceased son singing happy birthday to his son on his 1st birthday. All gone. They wanted me to bring it back in to fix it and I told them *** no!!! I took it to my guy my daughter knows and he told me they had wiped out my hard drive and had to reinstall Windows 10. I will be compensated somehow.

That's very strange since replacing a keyboard is a very simple thing to do - I have replaced my own keyboard twice and it only involves removing the keyboard ribbon cable that attaches to the motherboard by lifting the hinge up and replacing with a new one that has the same specs as the old keyboard. Mine is an HP Pavilion laptop and is surely very similar to most laptop keyboards. You can buy an exact replacement from Amazon for around $15 and save a lot of money by looking at a couple You-Tube videos to figure it out.

No help from Nerds on call

I have been with Nerds on call with no problems for some years now. However, this last treatment of horrible customer service and rude comments was the last straw!

I cannot read the nerds on call icon when I click on it for help as I have an eyesight problem. I called to talk to some one about this problem and have never been treated so unfairly in my life! The phone call I tried to make continually put me on hold for a very long time. When a very rude woman answered she told me it could be up to 2 hours for someone to get back to me.

after a 3 hour wait and no reply, I called back only to be treated rudely again! Being told I was incorrect as she told me it was only possible they could get back to me. Then being connected with a gentleman who needed to hear everything I said at least 2 or 3 times before he would answer any of my questions. I was told I cannot talk to anyone in management about my problem for 2 days.

So nothing fixed , nothing settled. Horrible customer service and then no service all for $175. Pretty bad Nerds !

Still waiting for my call from management, so unacceptable.

A very unhappy customer who will be going to another company soon.

Nerds On Call Estimate Repair Laptop Review

I submitted a request for an estimate for my MacBook Pro. Someone emailed me and asked my location so I could go to the repair shop closest to me. I got a call from a California number, but did not answer. I live in Cleveland. I called the number back and spoke to someone different than who called me before. Their websit says you can take your laptop to the closest location and you can choose whether you want to pay per hour or a flat rate fee. The guy who I talked to on the phone said that I have to ship my laptop to Sacramento and that it is a $299.00 shipping and diagnostic fee for them to figure out what is wrong and then I have to pay for any parts that are needed to fix it. Something is not right here. I advised the guy that is not what their website says at all. He said that I could not take it to a shop and had to send it. I am not going through with this company and based on other people's reviews I would not recommend it.

Terrible Customer Service

Extremely unhappy with Nerds on Site customer service. I tried calling their phone number on Monday, they took down my information and said someone to call me back...No phone call. I tried calling them on Wednesday, again someone took down my information and marked "urgent"... No response. I live in the Abbotsford, BC area. How is it that no one has at least the common decency to at least call me back. I called their office tonight, the response from the attendant was "Sorry, no one can help you, please call tomorrow morning". Why in god's name would I try calling them again??? This is absolutely ridiculous and I cannot understand how they run their business. Very disappointed with this Canadian company... Will definitely not recommend them to anyone looking for computer service!

5 stars!! I sign up every year for the full coverage. It is $250. I can call ANY time I want - and do! I am older, I sure need them. They are very qualified and try very hard to fix anything that is bothering me regarding my computer. Also, get once a month total "clean up" which is great! I am happy with these Nerds and don't understand why other's aren't. They will stay with me till ALL problems are resolved! If any problems left, I call back. Group of good, smart, nice guys who give their ALL to us! I have NO stress anymore regarding my computer thanks to them!! JJ

Nerds On Call Laptop Repair Review from Taft, California

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
I called Nerds on call and asked if they had qualified Mac repair techs, they said they did and set me an appointment for the next morning. I drove an hour away, gave it to the tech, paid the $179, and was told they had to send it out but that I should have it back within a week. I started calling them a week later because I had no updates, and they said Sacramento had just received it that morning. Called the next day, said they were able to back up my info. Called a few days later and no new information. So almost 2 weeks in I called and they said it's my motherboard. Yet when I had it, the diagnostic said could not connect to hard drive. Finally told them to just send it back and I have a qualified repair tech look at my computer. They wanted to argue with me that figuring out a motherboard issue takes time (two weeks?!?!). Biggest issue is that I am in grad school and need my laptop. Would never, ever recommend them. Wish I had read the reviews more carefully.

Even more money to reinstall their software every time?!

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
I've been using Nerds On Call support for a few years, paying the monthly fee of around $25. Most months I never use them. Recently, my hard drive crashed and I had to replace it. They now want $129 to reinstall their software, which actually takes them about 10 minutes. They refuse to waive the fee. But they will spend hours on a single support call that I make under my normal monthly coverage. It is outrageous. What the he** am I paying the $25 a month for, if they can't spend 10 minutes to reinstall their *** software. I am looking for another online support provider that understands how to provide customer service. As soon as I find one, I am dropping this company like a hot potato.

Can't go wrong with this team!

Starting a service with L Technology has been the best move I could have ever made. They are right on top of thing when there is any issue and extremely knowledgeable in their field.

Very polite and professional when you talk to them on the phone. My computer runs great since taking on their services.

Sold Service contract before they would work on computer

Was told that I had to sign up for their service contract ($179)before they would look at my computer. Two days later they called and said I needed a new hard drive, they would install it and try to get files off my old drive for another $149. Told them no thanks. I would come get my computer and hoped that the service charges would be refunded as their add says free diagnostics. Not so that is now their basic fee to get started. Pretty expensive for just running a couple of tests. Will not be going back to these guys again.

I think you misunderstood their pricing. It's flat rate for labor.

You pay $179 and everything is included. However you have to pay for parts. The $149 is for the hard drive not the transfer of your files.

If you don't want to buy the drive from them then buy your own and bring to them. $179 for a hard drive replacement, reinstall of your operating system, and transfer of your data is a better deal than anywhere.

My first impression is that Nerds On Call wrote this review, here's my reasoning.

1) It's Anonymous. All the Complaints have their location, yet this one "praising" them isn't.

Wouldn't you proudly declare the location of fine service?

2) When was the last time you've exclaimed, "Wow! You need to charge me more for this!" (Fill in the blank with any product or service) Never. As consumers, we say " Wow! Fair Price" or "Good deal!" But we don't just hand over more money.

3) They have so many bad reviews due to their unscrupulous business practices that they need to shill their own business. In fact, check the other reviews for multiple dislikes when actual consumers post their concerns. Really? That many people reading a negative review on PissedOffConsumer and dislike a negative comment rendering it Not Useful?

Who does that? Oh, I may know who would, and by now, so do you...

The guys at Nerds On Call were so smart

Nerds On Call is amazing! My computer was so full of viruses that it was frozen. I found Nerds On Call randomly from a Google search...I was looking for a tech to come to our house in Ohio to fix it. When they told me they could fix it remotely- I was all for it! These guys were so patient with me....guiding me through every step, explaining everything, and answering every question I had about the process. It was very cool just watching the screen, and see every single step they were taking to tackle the problem. After seeing what a MESS it was, they told me that it would probably take about 6 hours to clean up. I left the house and went on with my day. When I returned home that evening, there was a note on my screen telling me it was completely clean, and an itemized time frame of every step that was taken and the tech's name who did it. My computer is like new- and they are on call for 3 months for any issues or additional service we may need. I have already used our "Nerds On Call" button on the front screen to to see if they could also help with an ITunes issue that I have been struggling with- Once again, friendly techs right there to help me, the problem fixed while I watched the screen...really amazing. Thanks to Jeremy V., Daniel, Houston, and Josh H, my computer is completely fixed, without the trouble of lugging it to a repair shop, or letting a stranger into my home. I thought the price was extremely fair and reasonable, much less than I've paid at computer repair shops through the years. The guys at Nerds On Call were so smart, friendly, patient, and knowledgeable...I am so thrilled with their service...highly recommended!!!

Called for price estimate to replace a keyboard on my Macbook Pro. Guy answered and ran me through a info collecting format, ignoring my comments and questions. He was like connecting to a machine, not wavering from the script. His estimate was this, and I quote: "bring it in for a free diagnostic (not free since it cost me time and money); there's a $129 minimum fee. They provide the parts." I complained and he said he agreed with me but there was nothing more he could tell me. When I asked to speak to a manager he said none are available and he offered no further help, despite me saying i would go elsewhere unless I could get an estimate. I called Portland Mac repair and spoke to owner Ben. He was very nice and helpful and gave me estimate of around $100 and I su-pply the parts. I'm taking it to him.

Too bad you don't live near me. I do them for ~$35 and my work is top-notch!

$129 = LOL. Computers are so cheap and disposable now that it makes it hard to charge higher prices like that and get a customer to bit the bullet and order the repair. If I charged $129 to replace a keyboard then people with cheap (e.g.

$300) laptops would likely just get a new computer. I don't want that; I want them to let me fix it so they can continue to use their computer and so I get another job.

Dude, keyboards don't just go bad. There could be more wrong than just a keyboard.

I'll bet you $100 that that other place low balled you to get you in only to hit you up for more $ when it's too late to turn back. Sucker born every minute.
