So I have read on here that some other people were involved in the same scam I was. I was in an enter to win 300 dollar mary kay spa treamtent.

SO a rep named Ann called me up and siad she was going to come to my house and papmer me and give me 20 dollars in free makeup of my choice. So when she gets to my house it changes from me being the winner to me being the runner up.. the pamper treatment consisted of her talking my ear off about the company for 4 hours, and having me try on dabs of her wrinkle cream and all this ***, that did not suit me with me being 18 years old. She promised me a massage and all this spa treatment.

When i sat in a chair eager for her to leave my house why she was wasting my whole day attempting for me to buy this and that. I simply said "can i just get some of this with the free 20 dollars i won in makeup"? And she said i am just going to give you a catalog to look through and then you can decide, and i will give it to you on Tuesday when you come to our rally. I work 10 hour days everyday and she was trying to convince me to drive like a maniac to broomfield which is 70 miles away from me and i had to be there when i didnt get off work until 6:15 and it was 70 miles away..

not happening. I told her i could not make it and she said that she could not give me anything until I came to her *** rally.

I hate Mary Kay and I will never purchase a *** thing from them, I would rather by the cheapest china *** then purchase a mary kay product. What a waste of a day and my poor friend who drive from three towns away to come get "pampered" with me was mad about her full tank of gas for some *** that she had to sit through, how awfull

Monetary Loss: $20.

Location: Longmont, Colorado

Hello,

I know my thoughts might not mean much, but as an independent Mary Kay consultant, I do sincerely apologize for the way you and your friend were treated. I'm not commenting to change your mind or anything, but I did see on one of your posts that the consultant who scammed you keeps harassing you.

If that consultant still finds ways to do so, I can recommend a course of action that may (I hope anyways) or may not help. For every Marykay consultant, we are each given a personal ID number by the company. For example, mine is 6202SB.

The number is given so that if there are concerns or complaints about an independent consultant, the Marykay corporation can track down that person correctly. If you could get the ID number of the consultant who is harassing you, and contact the marykay corporation with details to what extreme this consultant has gone, some steps might (again I hope) be taken to prevent her friends acting as such to anyone else as she has wrongfully done to you and your friend.

Mary Kay burned my skin and I told the consultant. She hasn't called me since.

If a simple thing like the mileage has been so greatly exaggerated by janae I wonder how many other things in this post are.

I am also from Longmont and want to clarify that Broomfield is about 18 miles away, not 70 miles away ...

This litterally just happened to a close friend of mine!!! Same exact story just in California.

She was told she won a prize of a spa day full of spoils and luxury for her and 4 friends. A great day of pampering. She spoke to the "lady at the day spa" and got the information, gave her the names of the 4 friends and numbers so that the "spa" could customize the experience for each person. The next day we all get a text message from some lady at Mary Kay.

My friend and I were floored. We haven't gone yet, its this Saturday. So far her three other friends are still excited, even though its not what was advertised.

But it sounds like its a common bait and switch technique being used by MK consultants. I kind of want to go just to see what she tells my friend.

I just wanted to say how terrible it is to be hearing some of these experiences people have had. Makes me really sad.

I'm a Mary Kay Consultant myself (the second time around - this time I've been at it for two years!) and I try to be fair and honest with people. I hate hearing stories of other consultants out there who give the rest of us a bad name.

I've NEVER scr*wed a customer out of product, NEVER misrepresented myself, NEVER pressured anyone to buy anything (lol! that's probably why I don't make a lot of money at it)

The problem is that you have so many different women out there with so many different goals.

I guess some of them ARE ambition-driven and will stop at nothing to make a sale. But I'm not one of them, and in all honesty: none of the women I know are either.

That being said, I stay away from the "advancement" stuff and just try to focus on providing good customer service to my small, but loyal, group of customers.

Sorry again to everyone having bad experiences. It REALLY saddens me.

Just wanted to say some things to clarify:

1. MK Consultants do not operate under anybody. They are called "Independent Beauty Consultants" because they do not "represent" Mary Kay, they only have to follow company suggestions, and are not under oath to follow Mary Kay rules. Not every MK consultant will treat you like that. In fact, most will be nice and supportive women.

2. Mary Kay does not do massages. A Mary Kay "spa treatment" means you get a free facial with some extra bonuses-- a lotion, a mask, a scrub, etc. Think of when you go to a nail salon and ask for a facial. They cleanse your skin, put a mask on, etc. and charge $50. Mary Kay does that, but for free because you are getting an advertisement and a product "trial".

3. Mary Kay consultants are not licensed and are not allowed to touch their customers. Some consultants are licensed, but the company doesn't usually want their consultants to be licensed anyway. This is because IBCs are supposed to hold skin care "classes", training customers on the best ways to keep your skin healthy and to apply makeup well. They should be trying to teach you to do it yourself, so you learn how to do it as if you were at home. If it is a class, the IBC should be providing lots of product information. If its a spa-night or a facial/makeover party, you should just enjoy the product you get to try for free.

4. Mary Kay is more expensive because, A) it is supporting a small-business owner, and B) The quality is comparable to Lancome and Clinique. This stuff has safer, nicer ingredients than MAC or Revlon, and it has lifetime satisfaction guarantee. Your consultant is supposed to allow you to return a completely empty bottle and demand a full replacement for free, if you really wanted that. Of course, that's not the best way, but you can return product at 100% money-back or equal-value replacement at any time.

5. Mary Kay is an opportunity for women who have few options and/or many needs. Most MK consultants are nervous and they're just trying their best. Sales and small-business ownership are two of the riskiest, scariest areas to work with, but also the ones that provide the most return. Instead of tearing people down, you should try to support her. She might be in it for the money-- perhaps because she really needs the money.

Anyway, MK does claim to be more than it is occasionally, and there are plenty of bad consultants that MK cannot control. But don't ditch the brand. It's not Mary Kay's fault you did not get what your consultant promised, they just make great product and empower their consultants to run their business how they want to.

I love Mary Kay. I love the product and the company and especially the philosophy of Mary Kay Ash.

Some new consultants are a bit rocky on how to "do Mary Kay" but at least when you buy something from them you are supporting a small business person instead of China or a super store. These ladies take a lot of guff off of women who'd rather sit on their tail feathers then get out there and earn some money for their families. Even if you never have the desire to do it yourself try to understand that sales are difficult and not everyone is smooth as silk.

Without the sales person nobody works. Mary Kay is the best!!

That would be why door to door sales persons died out in the 1950's with the exception of mostly makeup and female driven companies with male ceo's? Way to represent the female gender. :roll

I was in the cult for 11 years. This is EXACTLY how MOST of you are and you know it.

It IS a scam. My director loved, loved loved me! She told me so...and I was a great asset to her team! When I quit, I never heard from her again.

It's all about making money for them and if you can't or won't?

They have no use for you. Quit and see how many of them keep in touch with you!

I an a registered nurse and my job loved me. When I quit a month ago, no one has called me from there either.

I'm really sorry for your experience. There's no excuse in a consultant doing that.

I've been doing Mary Kay for three years and can say we aren't all like that, but I understand why you wouldn't believe me. She shouldn't have promised something she wasn't willing to give you and no excuse in taking 4 hours for a pampering session! In our training we're actually taught to only promise what you genuinely intend to offer and respect peoples time. Clearly this girl was just being selfish and I really really apologize for that!

Just don't let one bad apple ruin you on the bunch. I do admit we have a lot of bad apples floating out there for the most part we're good people and a decent company.

Though I'm not here to prove you wrong or whatever I just wanted to apologize on behalf of those of us who don't conduct our businesses like that. I'd have your same views if I had that experience though.

Guest

I am sorry you had to endure that experience and that some of the previous commenters didn't get that you are not interested in Mary Kay. They are taught that No means Maybe.

And will just keep pushing you. You are correct. It is a scam. From the pretend winning of a pretend prize (done to unsuspecting victims and to the consultants from their upline) to the whole opportunity.

How do i know? I was sucked in to this cult. I have recently escaped! So glad you were smart enough to stay away!

Check out pinktruth.com. It is the real story behind the pretend life in Mary Kay.

Hardly necessary...

first of all its your rep. a MK consultant cant massage or touch you for that matter.

Is it possible you misunderstood what the prize actually was? most people do in my expereince in this situation.

So, Jdc, are you saying Janae did not comprehend what was meant by a "$300 spa treatment", a "massage" and "you're the runner-up....you get $20. in free product"?

Janae does not strike me as an illiterate person. However, the MK rep strikes me as a "bait and switch *** artist....a liar".

If, as you say "most people do in my experience in this situation"....meaning they 'misunderstand what the prize ACTUALLY was'....If you're saying this happens quite frequently....tells me 1). Either you're coming in contact and attracting a LOT of *** people....or 2). You (and your 'company') are out-and-out deceiving people with your underhanded bait and switch tactics. Which is it?
