I have worked at Home Depot for nearly five years now. It never ceases to amaze me when a person comes in my store and gets mad at me or one of my co-workers because we don't know how to build a house from the ground up, using grandpa's worn out, antique tools.

Home Depot provides training on a wide variety of products and services to every employee so that we can help customers make the right purchase. We can not tell you how to rewire your house. There are liability issues that could result in a lawsuit if you blow your yourself up or burn your house down after getting bad advice from an employee at a retail store. There is nothing wrong with asking if there are any tips for installing a new toilet or whatever, but please don't expect workers at home improvement places to read the back of the box for every item you purchase.

If you were to look around, there are often signs detailing the project you are working on. Read them. Also, please realize that other people in the store need help too. You would not believe how many people expect you to find every item on their list for them.

Every aisle has a sign detailing the major items that can be found on that particular aisle. There are also maps available to to help you find your stuff. I did not manufacture anything that is sold in my store. I am sorry if something that you bought turned out to be a piece of junk.

I cannot personally give you a refund. Try the service desk first.DO NOT hand me a filthy plumbing part.

I know what a P-Trap looks like, yours is not special.DO NOT bring in your old toilet seat. Toilet seats come in two shapes, round and elongated.Figure out which one you have at home, and buy that shape.

Location: Ingram, Texas

No most customers want their hand held. The world we live in pathetic no one can take care of themselves anymore.

I never go to a place expecting them to do all the work for me. I want something I do it my self. If it's more than asking where an item is you're the foolish one.

Educate yourself before you go. Going to make a major purchase do some *** research....

I cannot fathom thinking like you in store. If you don't know it does not hurt to call someone in store who does know.

If you cannot find someone in store call out, after 5 years your attitude is appalling. Many customers like to be served/helped that is why they come into a store looking for good customer service.

Try walking in my shoes for awhile before you judge me.

Imagine turning down an aisle in the store and discovering a customer ripping a box open so he can see what the product looks like. The box has a photograph of the item, and there is a working display in the bay. What gives him the right to destroy the box?

Even better, I walked a customer to the utility knives and helped him make a selection. He thanked me and walked off to do more shopping. Later, I found the empty package where the guy opened it, took the seventy dollar Leatherman tool and simply walked out with it.

I once spent ten minutes trying to find an odd size air filter for a lady. I searched the overstock and behind the products without success. I gave her an order form so she could contact the manufacturer directly and order her size. Later, as I was walking by the registers up front, the head cashier called me over to inform me that a lady had complained that I wasn't helpful in her quest to find an air filter. What more could I have done?

It is impossible to please everyone. We are trained to treat every customer like they are the first shopper we have seen all day, and not to let a bad experience carry over to the next encounter. 9 out of 10 customers are great and know what they need. It's a big store so I can understand the need for guidance to a product.I just wish customers would understand that employees of home improvement stores are not always experts, and we are still learning.

customers who have never worked in the retail field give no respect but demand everything. "Many customers like to be served/helped that is why they come into a store looking for good customer service." we all do, but those that have worked in retail do not act like they are the queen of England when they don't get what they want.

Ohhh so true. I work at a Menards it's very similar to Lowes and Home Depot and is a Midwest chain.

People come in with the silliest expectations and ideas. They don't read anything, they toss out their receipts and manuals without any thought. They do a horrible job describing what they need and use made up terms or words that have not been used in 50 years. I could go on and on.

Just look at all the silly complaints on here for Home Depot/Lowes/Menards.

9 out of 10 of these complaints are people with silly expectations and complaining totally out of ignorance and not understanding how the process works and who they really should be angry with. Which is either themselves or the manufacture.
