Well after being diligent in my requests to them , my microwave was replaced under their "Program " a week before Thanksgiving 2014 with a different model that is smaller , has a plasic-chrome film handle and this goofy *** instead of the full touch screen. They shipped it to my house and then sent a tech to remove the old one and install the new one. The granite backsplash behind the GE Cafe dual fuel stove was custom notched for the original microwave and now there is a gap due to the new unit being .5 cubic foot smaller.....the new unit is lacking in quick menu features that were on the original unit. The smaller size unit won't accommodate our square dinnerware now as the corners now hit and won't rotate....Grrrrrrrr

The plasic-chrome film started peeling off of the handle about 5 months after the install.... Will have to call them again.

The microwave is still working though.

A shame that I had to go through the BS that I have been through and get a replacement that is of less quality than what I bought and paid for. Although they did finally replace my defective unit , I received less than stellar customer service for quite some time and now have a lesser quality unit and quite honestly, an ugly design.

GE will not get another chance from me or anyone that I speak too that is looking to make a purchase....

My friend that is a local police officer bought the same model right before I did and is having the same issues , I don't think that it has been used a dozen times since he bought it as he is single and eats out daily. Bryan

this above the range microwave should be recalled !!! The number of complaints against this microwave is staggering!! The touchpad has a serious design flaw in that it does not function after cooking on the range below it. Mine is mounted above my GE Cafe dual fuel range at a height above their minimum mounting height.

I contacted GE, had a "case manager" contact me and a service tech came to my house, control unit is bad. The cost of the part is $500.00 plus a service call !! I voiced my opinion about the keypad and control unit being a defect in engineering and that it should be replaced by GE. After multiple emails back and forth she offered a 50% discount on the part, why would I pay that much to fix my microwave with a part that is going to fail again due to the obvious design flaw that GE's engineers have not addressed by making a redesigned part? i decided to not repair my microwave. Instead I joined the GE community website and voiced my opinion there like thousands of others have. I was very persistent for 17 posts...then last week they decided that to shut me up by banning me from the site AND removed ALL of my posts. GE simply does not care about the consumers that made them the giant that they are today. The eresponse@***.com is a joke as well !! the entire GE community pages are full of the same posts..." I am sorry to hear about your problem, please email us your model number and serial number..." only to get a response of we can schedule a technician to come to your house for $$$. FIX THE PROBLEM !!!! You already know that there are THOUSANDS of us with the EXACT issue. Send a tech to my house WITH the part...I will even pay for the tech to install it but I do not feel I should be charged for a defective design from your engineers shortsightedness of thinking a microhood would not be used above a range with steam below it.

My very expensive microwave is useless kitchen art...it does work very well as a paper plate holder.

GE Cafe 36" microwave, touch pad bad, touch pad bad, relacement parts over $750 for touch pad assembly and over another $400 for main control panel, and I looked up prices online myself, are they kidding? GE stainless refrigerator bought at same time, ice maker never worked right after first year, now completely stopped, and fridge bottom floods and ics up.

Appliance guy here twice and couldn't fix. Will never buy GE again in my life.

The microwave over the stove is garbage, touch pad went 2 weeks before warrany was up, london major appl. Centre sent a tec to come out and take a look at it and got it working but only for one day so made another call and sent a tech out after the two weeks up and said was out of warranty and a service call at my cost to tell me that and couldn't get it to work but could if I spent five hundreds plus install....complained to GE but to hear nothing back now I also have a expensive plate rack also....once bitten twice shy never ever buy GE and make sure all my friends and enemies know what garbage the product is.....I feel better getting that off my chest

I had an unresponsive touchpad problem twice. Hubby watched various YouTube videos and did as directed to no avail.

Then... I accidentally left the oven door open for a couple hours. When I closed it, I tried the touchpad again just for chuckles and it worked. Everything was fine for about a month till we had a short power outage, then the touchpad was unresponsive again.

Tried everything for 4 days and then ordered a replacement oven. Then I remembered about the open door.

Tried it again, and the touchpad works fine again! I know this baby is on its way out, but if I can get more time out of it, I will!

THANK YOU FOR POSTING THIS! This happened to us for the third time three days ago and unlike the others didn't resolve itself.

My husband did all the YouTube tricks and no luck. After scheduling a pricey GE appointment I stumbled upon this board. I unplugged and left the door open overnight. This morning IT WORKS!!

Every button! I'm so happy and cannot wait to cancel that GE appointment.

I just replaced the controller board in my microwave and that worked, for a week. Now it's not working again. This microwave is extremely over priced and really poor quality.

We have the same problem. I agree with this consumer.

GE should provide the replacement part FREE OF CHARGE for their design problems.

We WILL NOT purchase anything GE again in this lifetime.

Similar problem.quote to repair was $494 + the service call. Funny it works after it cools for a day or two.

Same here, still dealing with touchpad problems. Installed June 2009 and is now September 2015. Submitted the problem to the GE Support website a long time ago and never received a reply.

Same issue..

I have had the same problem with the touchpad on my Cafe microwave CVM2072SM1SS for years now since I bought the house in 2013 (it was installed in 2009). It goes back and forth and the last time it worked was almost a year ago. If it's not too late, I will sigh a class action petition against GE if there is one.

Guest

I had the identical problem and I'm $1500 in the hole with purchase and repair losses and still touchpad does not function properly! I'm going to organize a class action suit against GE for this known issue and failure to recall.

Please reply if you would like to participate in the suit. Get your money back!

If you are seriously considering class action please keep me informed. The way they blatantly disregard what is obviously a design that is flawed is borderline criminal. Mjbboston0@***.com

Yes I am having the same problems with my GE microwave CVM2072SMISS since it was installed...

Guest

GE should stick with only make garbage disposals, because that is what they make...garbage. We had so many repairs on our refrigerator that they eventually just sent us a new one...and it still sucks.

Now I have the touchpad problem on my Cafe microwave CVM2072SM1SS that many others have had. The part is $600, with $200 labor to install.

Who in their right mind would entertain this. GE is banned from my consideration in my household, and hopefully from everyone else's if I can help it.

Guest

GE is a horrible mass manufacturer that does not back their own products. My microwave touchpad died just to find out I'm over the 5 yrs for replacement.

They are worthless. WILL NEVER BUY GE AGAIN!

Guest

Exact same problem. In terms of GE service, another design flaw in their stove knobs results in exhorbitant replacement costs - $100 for a plastic *** (repairman cost not included).

Guest

Same issue cvm2072sm1ss microwave is ***. Replaced touchpad once myself.

Of course it failed again.

Now just using fan and light. Put in drawer microwave as replacement.
