Experian charged me membership that I didn't willfully choose
On 10/24/2011, I purchased a 3-bureau credit report with scores and paid $29.95 for it. I then noticed that my card was charged an additional $17.95 described as "Recur Purchase with ATM card EXPERIAN *CREDITREP INFOEXD.COM CA". I logged into experian and found out that I had been signed up for a recurrent monthly charge of $17.95 for membership and I had to call customer service to cancel the membership. I never deliberately signed up for membership and a monthly membership fee.
.00 but a monthly charge of .95
I called customer service and the lady who answered told me that when you buy a credit report, they give you a 7-day trial membership and then start billing you after the 7 days and that I can cancel the membership, but I can't get the $17.95 refunded. I insisted that this was not right and that I had been tricked into signing up for membership. I told her that I was going to dispute the charge with my bank and that if she couldn't refund my money then I needed to speak to someone who could. I was then put on hold and when she returned, she said I would get my refund and the membership will be cancelled immediately.
Even though I was told that they would refund my money, I'm posting this complaint since this practise of tricking people into membership is wrong and needs to be stopped. I also filed a complaint with the BBB.

Thanks for posting. Had the same thing happen to me. Going to dispute charges and get a new card!!
My husband signed up for the free trial, cancelled the membership after he was charged the $19.99+ for the monthly membership, and here I am, looking for a way to speak to a human through them because Iโve again been charged the $19.99 and heโs somehow back on a premium membership. This time it wonโt allow us to cancel.
facebook helpline phone number is +1 86* *** ****
Welcome to the internet and what is now an age old tactic pioneered by pornsites from the earliest days of Digitized muff and D videos. look over registration page very closely before clicking sign me up.... The intranet is a dangerous perverted mistress that Will take every last penny and gamete you can muster.
They did the exact same thing to me MOTHER ***!!!!!
I just had the same thing happen to me with experian. I think what they are doing is fraud.
As described in the dictionary, fraud is wrongful or criminal deception intended to result in financial or personal gain.
I signed up for a credit report and then 3 months later I found that I am paying 19.95/month for updates!
I know it is partially my fault for not catching this on my credit card statement but I think they are getting away with cheating people and something needs to be done. And what you are getting for the 19.95 is all ***.
I too am out $300 for this fraudulent activity. I NEVER signed up for any membership in the first place.
I would like to know how they accessed my credit card number. This is very upsetting knowing that this practice has been going on for years and that nothing has been done about.
Why has the U.S. government not intervened?
I had the same exact problem as everyone else, except i never realized all these charges until recently. it was a total of $450 they had charged me and i spoke to a supervisor and got a complete refund of all $450!
its possible! do not quit and get your money back!!
How long did it take to get your refund because I am having the same problem they charged me $43 after I had already canceled my membership???
Hi Marie I just signed up and had recieved two charges in one day one for the "first month 4.99" and then they charged me again for 39.99. I also did not sign up for a monthly fee. When you told them there was a mistake did they actually refund the fee or did it take them a long time to reverse the fee ?
I have been getting charged for this "service" for over a year now. I am not sure how it has been slipping by in my account unnoticed for so long but it's ridiculous.
My husband is on the phone with them right now and the person he spoke with said that they have FIFTEEN different websites that do this. FIFTEEN!!
and Freecreditreport.com is one of them.
Be warned if you use any of these websites!
He told us that we cannot be refunded anything but this month's charge and cancelled our "membership" that we never even got any "perks" from.
The Experian office is in the Philippines run by an american. I have called twice to cancel and have written to the bank twice telling them I will not pay for a fraud charge.
They are crooks but there is a very savvy american in charge. I have written my representative of this state and the office is just giving me the runaround.
If that american ever shows his face I want to be at that trial; only an American would have the inside info this office has. I have no doubt he can be brought to the USA brought to face charges of fraud from numerous americans living in the US.When I spoke to him he would only give a first name and no other information.
I am having the same problem they haven't stop taking money from my account since last year it has been about 6 months and their phone number 0844 481 **** does not give me any option to cancell it or speak to any assistant.
here's a phone number for you to try. this is how i got them to stop pulling from my account. good luck.
here's an Experian phone number for you to try. 888-888-****.
this is the number i was actually able to get a live operator on and cancel the membership. good luck.
When I have called, they ask for my SS#. I don't feel comfortable giving that out.
I tried giving my last name but they told me that is not sufficient. Any advice on what I can do about that?
This has happened to me twice now. Experian deliberately has set up their website to fool you.
And for those that say you can't read, some of us don't have time to continually read fine print to protect ourselves.
It shouldn't be nessisary with a company that has such a Hughes impact on our lives. If Experian was an honest company then we and hundreds like us would not be complaining about being charged without knowing about it.
I do not think any of you all can read or You do not completely read the agreement before you accept. It clearly states that you have to call and Cancel or Write in and Cancel.Geez its not hidden you all just looked over the claus that makes this statement. And know i do not work for this company i just read everything i commit to.
Does anyone else notice the irony that Connie is calling everyone here illiterate, yet she obviously has no understanding of proper grammar, capitalization, spacing, punctuation, or correct useage of the words claus/clause and know/no?
...excuse me, "usage." Holy ***, it's contagious! lol
