We have had Blue Cross for as long as I can remember. My parents insurance premiums went up A LOT this year. That means their coverage should be great, right? No. Wrong. My dad was a healthy 47 year old man up until now. He was diagnosed with bone cancer this month and Blue Cross refuses to pay for his chemo, velcade. I do billing for AccuTox, inc, the only laboratory available in a 3 county area that can provide STAT services for the doctors, patients, and some local hospitals. Many of these patients are from rural areas. AccuTox goes to these rural areas twice daily. When I file the claims, BCBS denies for out of network. I have spent countless hours fighting. I have to call BCBS of Illinois numerous times throughout the day and the hold times are still running over an hour!! I can see that happening at the beginning of the year, but not now. I can't use their website "Availity" because it will not give me any info on deductibles, so I am forced to waste the majority of my days on hold with ridiculous music that just keeps playing over and over and... Mom in hospital one wk due to flair up of CHF, MD @hospital agrees inpatient rehab would get her able to help with transfers. Emory Midtown started process on 2.25.14, call to BCBS of GA SHBP, their phone /fax lines were down ALL day Tues. Nothing on Wed, calls placed to case management @ BCBS, no help. This is my third attempt to resolve my problems on the phone with Blue Cross. My daughter has two member Id' numbers. The payment has been taken from my account twice. I called BCBSNC with the intent of asking ONE simple question. I wanted to know why BCBSNC sent me a check, instead of paying my provider directly. Anthem blue cross is messed up... I got my new cards finally in Jan 2014 and they took my initial payment to start with the covered ca subsidy. Canceling my old expensive policy with them.
