Amtrak company goes to great extent to protect their reputation and unprofessional staff re:sexist and racist issues. Health officials need to get involved with unfit restroom conditions. I have to say I am very quite irritated I took the train from LA to salinas an I was suppose to be arriving at 6:30 I had already arranged for y ride to come get me . As first time Amtrak traveller, we travelled from Topeka to Forth Madison,Iowa (November 2013) and not familiar with small town disembarkment was told the conductor would let us know when to disembark. Terrible weather yesterday, Jan. 5. Called Amtrak multiple times regarding train 306 from Alton to Chicago. We were assured it was running on time. Went out on roads against all recommendations, and arrived at 6:14 to see train there. I generally like Amtrak and accept that a lot of the late arrivals are beyond their control. However, I think they could do a much better job of training their employees in the very basics of customer service. I travel on Amtrak roundtrip from Portland to Whitefish Mt. 75-80 times a year for my work in Oregon. Travel from Whitefish to Portland has been canceled a few times, and they are consistently 2-4 hrs late. Their prices have risen and many times rise at the last minute. I use the rewards program which helps, but at holidays they tend to have lots of Black-out dates. Their workers especially on... Read more

They continue to change contract (verbal and written) and policies after already holding my funds. When they initially obtained my funds, the policy as Id known it up until that point was: if I didn't travel I was not charged or was automatically issued a refund. Then when new policies were written no staff was sure when they went into effect, if they were in effect or if there was a grace period... Read more

On several occasions now I have ridden Amtrak only to have it stop for hours somewhere down the rails. One time the train in question did not have proper brakes. This was discovered only after we left the station. The conductor then had us stopped for hours. On another occasion there were problems with the actual engines. This time I didn't get home until 4 hours after my scheduled arrival time.... Read more

When I went to Amtrak to purchase my round trip tickets, I was told a much higher price to ride that day then there was on the Amtrak website. I was told by the ticket seller that for that ride it would be more because there more riders on that train. If Amtrak does not go by the ticket prices on their website, then why post them at all. Mr. Boardman, I am a service connected disable vet. Vietman 1965. Until a recent experience with Amtrak, I would have recommended it highly to anyone and did so. In July of this year, I made reservations with Amtrak for a trip to Montreal. The agent offered to handle all travel needs including layover hotels in New York City and Montreal.
